Angels Camp officially became the City of Angels when it was incorporated in 1912. It is best known as the location of the Jumping Frog Contest made famous by Mark Twain in his story “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras”. In fact, the Jumping Frog Jubilee (since 1928) is still a popular feature of the Calaveras County Fair – the longest running county fair in California. Downtown Angels Camp is home to boutique shops, a wonderful museum and a championship golf course.
